A clear, purposeful interface is critial for users to have a pleasant experience. As a designer, it is important to take into account the demographics of the group that will be using the interface. Factors such as age, familiarity with computers, hardware, environment, etc. can greatly affect the design decisions that will be implemented into the interface.
Visual hierarchy presents information efficiently and correlates with amount of times a user will need to utilize each function or action on the interface (such as a “next” button vs a “search” bar).
The interface should be organized in a meaningful and recognizable way, rendering the interface so intuitive that it essentially becomes invisible, similar to Beatrice Warde's “Crystal Goblet” metaphor for the typographical system in a book.
